The Colt M1911A1 versus the Beretta M9, Glock vs. Sig, 9mm vs .40 vs. .45ACP; gun culture folks love to argue with each other. And, you know what, this is America and people have the freedom to do just that, argue about minutia and trivial pursuits.
For as long as I have been paying attention to the gun culture, better than thirty years now, gun rags have been promoting the “versus” technique to sell magazines. If there had been a Guns&Ammo magazine in 1821, the cover story would have likely read “Flint vs. Percussion Cap; Our Experts Decide” Am I telling you not to argue Weaver vs. Isosceles or Leather vs. Kydex? No, I am not. What I am going to tell you is that the United States of America as founded as a representative republic is in dire peril. It is far beyond time to get our priorities in order.

In the article above, Paul Markel speaks on an issue we’ve noticed here at GOTR as well. Substantive posts by gun blogs are often ignored. Call it mental masturbation if you will. People happily click on memes or posts comparing/hailing/lambasting guns, bullets, and gear. But few seem interested in clicking on anything that requires engaging any part of their brain that isn’t involved in sexual gratification and that’s a shame.

What really torques my jaw is that even our own gun friendly media works against us by splitting us with petty arguments when we should be spending our time, money, and energy on shutting the anti-gun contingent up. Imagine what it would be like if one entity could get everybody with a gun on the same page, focused, sending the same message, and looking forward all the way to having unopposed legal gun ownership in America by 2025. Embarrass and quiet the anti-gunners. Renew interest in safe ownership and carry. Rally the conservatives. Meet the most vocal gun haters with a louder and more sensible, but still calm and authoritative voice. That is what the NRA is supposed to do but I think they fear a consolidated and better organized group of gun owners who can’t be quieted and who have local meetings and chapters to work toward one common goal. Everybody in America be “Gun Owner Proud by 2025!” (Gun Owner Proud by 2025! copyright 2015 – crwatson – all rights reserved)
