Walmart Beats Out Church In Court Fight Over Gun Sales – Forbes

Walmart has emerged victorious in a court battle against one of the country’s oldest churches over the retailer’s sale of assault weapons.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals reversed a previous ruling that would have required Walmart to let its shareholders vote on a proposal for tighter oversight of firearm sales at this June’s annual meeting.

New York City’s Trinity Church — a Walmart shareholder — had taken issue with the big-box giant’s sale of guns with high-capacity magazines of the sort used in mass killings. As Trinity’s recently retired rector Rev. Dr. James Cooper explained to Forbes in February, the church wasn’t seeking a ban on the sale of assault weapons at Walmart.

Rather, their shareholder proposal sought to require Walmart’s board to oversee the sale of “products that especially endanger public safety and well-being, risk impairing the company’s reputation, or offend the family and community values integral to the company’s brand,” as the document first filed with the Security and Exchange Commission last year read.

Gun accidentally fires at Easter Mass, injures owner | abc13.com

Officer Christy Heck says the gun’s safety apparently was not on when the man stood up from kneeling, causing the gun to snag on his pants and fire. The man has a license for the gun and was carrying it legally.

Don’t be “THAT” guy. Use a quality holster and a proper belt. Know how your gun’s manual safety works (if so equiped). And if you’re going to carry in a pocket, again, use a quality holster. Also, if you’re going to pocket carry, remember that pocket should be home to the gun, in it’s holster, and nothing else!

Be aware of your threat/target, be aware of those around you…

“The preliminary indications are that this is going to be a ‘friendly fire’ incident,” said Victor Senties, a Houston police spokesman.

This isn’t a reflection on a particular agency. It’s just the latest such incident. Fortunately, this officer will survive. I know of at least one officer involved shooting in which one officer ended up shooting his own partner in the back of the head, killing him instantly. The incident led to changes in policy and training for that agency. But the lessons here apply to all of us who go armed.

Knowing your target and what’s beyond is a cardinal rule of gun handling. But, People have a strange tendency to get excited in shootings. As a result, they don’t all  stand still waiting to be shot or allowing you to conveniently re-orient yourself around them to engage a threat. They may run right into you or, in the case of fratricide I mentioned earlier, someone could stand right up in front of your muzzle as you’re breaking a shot.

We can’t make the world hold still conveniently for us to shoot an orderly array of targets those we see on the range. But we can and should seek training that exposes us to a reasonable approximation of what can and does happen in the real world. People are often willing to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a new gun but, wince at the idea of spending that same amount on training that might help them avoid negligently shooting an innocent bystander, family member, or friend should they find it necessary to use deadly force in their home, office, or in public.  We as civilians are not immune to these issues as at least one CHL holder learned the hard way several years ago in a Family Dollar store in Houston.

Be honest with yourself. plan and train accordingly.

Review: Taurus Curve .380 | AllOutdoor.com

I applaud Taurus for trying to think outside the box, but I don’t think this gun is ready for serious use just yet. – Review: Taurus Curve .380 | AllOutdoor.com.

An extremely well done, thorough review. Worth reading if you’re seriously wondering about the Taurus Curve. But, Michelle DiCianni summed it up exactly as we were expecting an honest review of The Curve to turn out. We can’t even get one because it seems a number of them left the factory with an as yet undisclosed problem that has led to them being quietly recalled before reaching dealer shelves.
