The New York Times lays their cards on the table

It took a while for the authors to stop beating around the bush and get to the point but, to their credit, the New York Times is finally being honest…They want an all out ban on guns. Actually, they are only being half honest. They don’t go so far as to state a total ban on ALL guns but, “large categories” therein. Certainly, any modern firearm meant for serious defensive purposes. Let’s be honest…This really shouldn’t be “news.” Objectivity in the media has been a myth since before Walter Cronkite signed off for the last time from South Vietnam.

What is interesting is that in building up to the singular point of the editorial, they admit that all the bans and other legislation they desire has utterly failed to prevent tragedies like San Bernadino from happening throughout Europe. Whether it be the recent events in Paris, today’s stabbing in London, or suicide bombings, these incidents still happen. While I am not among those who would say, “Oh well, nothing we can do…” I am not willing to be vilified, made scapegoat, and stripped of the right to self-defense or the means I choose to effect said self-defense.

“…It is past time to stop talking about halting the spread of firearms, and instead to reduce their number drastically — eliminating some large categories of weapons and ammunition.

It is not necessary to debate the peculiar wording of the Second Amendment. No right is unlimited and immune from reasonable regulation.

Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.

GOTR20151122 Podcast

Today’s podcast is up! Final show was a little short and rowdier than usual. All that said, Jeff and Gary rake Jason over the coals for his love of the Beretta 96D, a gun he carried on duty nearly 20 years ago! We also handled a recent copy of the CZ-75B for which Jason installed new sights as an agency armorer. Jeff allowed us to handle MagPul’s Hunter stock for the Remington 700 and Gary fondled Daniel Defense’s new DD5v1. All that and more on the latest episode of Guns Over Texas Radio!

GOTR20151115 Podcast

Finally got the band back together again. The podcast is up! Gary is back after a rough month. We got to fondle the new Remington RM380, the result of Remington’s purchase of the Rohrbaugh design. And yes, we discuss our thoughts on the tragedy in France. We also get into a number of listener requests for our thoughts/recommendations on trainers, gun forums/podcasts, and pistol sights.

On a personal note, I’ll take this moment to say thanks to everyone who has reached out to me during this trying time. Life can change in an instant and the last month has been full of far more reminders of that than I’d care to count. Kiss and hug your families tonight. Tomorrow is promised to none of us.

On another note, we did have some technical issues that came up while I’ve been out. If you’ve tried to reach us by email, please send those messages again. I’ve unfortunately had to move hosting for email to a new server and messages sent over the last 30 days had no mailbox to receive them.

Glenn Reynolds: How gun laws put the innocent on trial

Police are horrible, racist monsters who want to lock up minorities over even trivial violations of the law! And police are also the only ones who should have guns!

These two beliefs, it seems from my observations, are often held by the same people. Yet there is a conflict: If you favor strict gun control laws, laws that will punish people severely simply for possessing a gun or ammunition, then you will wind up throwing a lot more people in jail. And many of those people will be minorities.
