“ATF Director B. Todd Jones said all types of the 5.56 military-style ammo used by shooters pose a threat to police as more people buy the AR-15-style pistols.” via ATF raises new concerns about AR-15 ammo | WashingtonExaminer.com.
As has been said over and over again, the proposed framework (even if they don’t implement it) was designed to give the ATF the ability to ban ALL rifle ammunition under the pretense that it is a threat to law enforcement. That’s is B. Todd Jones’ goal and directive from the man who appointed him. Though the President and Jones claim to respect the Second Amendment, every proposal they’ve made has been an attempt to circumvent it.
What is amazing is that even the news organization that bears Michael Bloomberg’s name pointed to the ATF’s pursuit of a ban as being a waste of time.
“The AR-15-type handguns in question are relatively expensive, heavy, and about two feet in length. You haven’t read much about them because they’re not turning up at crime scenes. Green tips, moreover, haven’t contributed discernibly to shooting waves, let alone skeins of cop killings. (I’m unaware of a single police shooting that involved the ammo in question; if you know of one, please point it out.) If bad guys want to use rifle ammunition to kill police officers, they can do so right now – and they have a vast array of rounds to choose from. ” via
The ban has been shelved for now but, it’s not time to celebrate. The ATF is still moving foward with 41P which for many of us, will make it all but impossible to purchase NFA items by requiring CLEO signatures on transfers even to trusts and corporations. If you live in a place like Harris County, Texas, the obvious CLEO signature would be that of Sheriff Adrian Garcia or someone acting under his authority. Rest assured, that signature will never happen and there are scant few alternatives to anyone who isn’t politically connected at the federal level in Harris County.
41P aside, it is clear the new ATF director will continue to make every effort to gut the Second Amendment. The President that appointed him promised to do so when Congress wouldn’t. Even if the M855 ban is shelved for now, we’ll likely see it again or something far worse before the current administration leaves office in 2017.
If you haven’t already heard about this, pay attention! It’s a clear and present threat to the 2nd Amendment. It is legislation by executive action. True to his word,President Obama has taken steps to enact new gun control without Congress.
BATFE is now proposing to ban a whole class of common rifle ammunition used in that overwhelmingly popular firearm. Unfortunately, that’s just the beginning of BATFE’s latest move.

Statement by the President
One year ago, our dedicated military and civilian personnel at the Washington Navy Yard were targeted in an unspeakable act of violence that took the lives of 12 American patriots. As we remember men and women taken from us so senselessly, we keep close their family and friends, stand with the survivors who continue to heal and pay tribute to the first responders who acted with skill and bravery. At the same time, we continue to improve security at our country’s bases and installations to protect our military and civilian personnel who help keep us safe. One year ago, 12 Americans went to work to protect and strengthen the country they loved. Today, we must do the same – rejecting atrocities like these as the new normal and renewing our call for common-sense reforms that respect our traditions while reducing the gun violence that shatters too many American families every day.

Memos obtained by the National Report purport that Obama, Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi have been meeting ‘off the record’, to craft a way of subverting and ignoring the will of the American people by using a Presidential order that would no longer seek to register guns but register ammunition instead.

Some thing about this sounds wrong. Not that I don’t think the President would look for a way around Congress. He has very plainly said he would do just that at every opportunity in his most recent State of the Union address. Even with that, until more information is available, I’m filling this away with Alex Jones conspiracy theories. This is not a site with which I am familiar and I cannot call it a credible source.
“We don’t want to get into a fight with the federal government at this time…” – David Garza via No RVs, fishermen at Thomae Park in Arroyo City – Valley Morning Star : Winter Texan Calendar.
The media has done a very good job of portraying the entire government shutdown as the will of Republicans. And while Republicans are far from blameless in the fiasco that has rolled into its eight day, the Obama Administration is at least equally culpable. The quote from county County Commissioner David Garza is a clear indication that the Obama Administration is going to great lengths to turn the screws on John Q Citizen in an effort to create political pressure against Republicans.
Garza indicated that no federal money is used to staff or maintain the county park. The park was untouched by previous government shutdowns, including the twenty-one-day shutdown of 1995-1996. But it seems this time, because the land is leased from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, it is now off limits to any and all citizens during the shutdown. I wonder how long it will be before they send rangers into George Bush Park in Houston to shutdown American Shooting Centers.
How could that happen? Many people don’t realize this but, the entire Addicks and Barker Reservoirs are owned by the U.S. Government. Specifically, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Harris County leases the land as does American Shooting Centers. If they are shutting down parks operated leased to a county and operated entirely by private or county funds, what would stop them from doing the same in Houston other than they simply haven’t thought of it yet? Your votes at work folks. You’ve got a new election cycle coming…Choose wisely.
