Ms. Gunn-Barrett candidly laid bare a basic premise of the gun ban mindset that usually goes unspoken: there’s no such thing as a law-abiding gun owner.
“You can be perfectly law-abiding one moment,” said Ms. Gunn-Barrett during the debate, “and then the next moment you can be a criminal and do something criminal and wrong, like shoot up a movie theater, or kill your spouse during an argument.” Regulation of people and behavior is needed, she said, “to protect us against our own stupidity and our own irrationality.”via There’s No Such Thing As A Law-Abiding Gun Owner?.
Those are the words of Leah Gunn-Barrett, Executive Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. As long as this is the other side of the conversation, there is NO common ground to be had. This is akin to ask a jihadist for a peaceful solution when he has clearly stated the only “good” outcome is death to all “infidels.” To her and others of her mindset, we are all just waiting to go off. We are all paranoid, borderline psychotic individuals who will lay waste to the world around is at any moment.
Gunn-Barrett recently debated Scott Bach at New York University in a class on culture wars according to his post at Ammoland.com. Gunn-Barrett contends, as many other gun-control proponents do, that guns constitute a public health crisis and that the United States Supreme Court was in error when they said the Second Amendment denotes an individual, rather than collective, right to keep and bear arms. She also says the NRA represents manufacturers for their financial benefit rather than championing the rights of its individual members. None of these claims or opinions should surprise us. We’ve heard them all before.

Most of us would agree that one’s personal safety is your own responsibility and points out that the government has time and time again argued that they are not responsible for your personal safety. And yet, gun-control supporters continue the constant pursuit of ways to limit the rights and means by which one defends himself.

The truth, from a medical professional who treats gunshot wounds…It burns. At GOTR, if you’ve listened to us for any length of time, you know that we are all firmly in the “nine is fine” crowd. We all own guns in just about every caliber but, we tend to carry 9mm most of the time. “More bullets, more better…” if you prefer. Jason’s agency is among many that “standardized” on .40 cal pistols but, he had the option to choose otherwise and went with a 9mm.
There are so many variables that impact the terminal results of any given bullet on a subject. The only things that work reliably are broken (weight bearing) bones or disruption and catastrophic failure of the cardio, pulmonary, or nervous systems systems. And so, we’ll always recommend that you choose ammunition that has been designed to reliably penetrate deep enough to reach these structures under conditions one might expect to find in a defensive encounter. Shoot the biggest portion of the threat available to you but, the optimal recipe for handguns is hotdogs and hoses (cardio/pulmonary/nervous systems), marshmallows and grapes (the spine).

PCD understands that not everyone is comfortable with owning an actual firearm. But why should those feelings affect your personal safety?
Now they no longer have to. With the launch of Perceived Carry Decoys, you may now give off the appearance that you are toting serious heat, while in actuality you have nothing more than a one piece device attached to your hip that is as harmless as a cell phone.
This has to be a joke. Please. Someone. Anyone. Tell me this is a joke! It has to be. Surely they aren’t serious. Then again, I can’t be sure. I once had a customer ask if they could buy an ASP brand training gun/placebo, paint it black, and use that to scare away burglars in their home.
PCDCarry.com is a site that allegedly sells what Perceived Carry Decoys…Their term, not mine. The site claims to have been started last year by a United States Marine who is a combat veteran. Their product is intended to “bridge the gap between hardcore everyday gun toting enthusiasts and those who are less willing to have a firearm in their home…” and “…change how society treats one another.” According to the website, PCDs are for:
So basically, this thing if for someone who wants to look like they are carrying a gun without having to be responsible for carrying a gun. I am sure there are a bunch of folks who see this as a good thing. You know, deterrence and all that. The problem I have here is that there is no more statistical evidence to support the idea that open carry deters crime than there is to support the idea that open carry makes you a target. Where the problem truly arises however, is that moment that someone decides to target you regardless of whether or not you are carrying. It may not “create” a problem but, it does nothing to solve it either.
I’m still hoping this is just a joke and I’m not in on it. But blog for this site suggests the manufacturer now has a prototype (that looks a lot like a Walther P99 in a Fobus holster. Seems like both of those are likely to result in complaints of patent and or trademark violations. Allegedly this product will be presented to the show, “Shark Tank.” Given the nature of that show, I just can’t see them airing an episode with anything even remotely gun related. It just has to be a joke. But if it’s not…I wish the guy luck. He’s going to need it.
