It’s not the tool, it’s the person using it…Woman arrested in deaths of eight children, including 7 of her own

Police haven’t said how the children died. But Asnicar said they’re examining several knives in the home that may have been the weapon used to kill the children.

Our hearts and prayers are with these children and their families. This sort of thing should never happen. But, even in a country where guns are all but banned, evil found a way and guns weren’t involved. It looks as if ordinary household knives were involved. Of course, countries like Britain would and have reacted to heinous crimes like this with calls to bans on everything short of a butter knife. Let’s hope the Australians don’t follow suit.

Officer Stacy: Showing kindness was ‘the right thing to do’

I figure it is time, in the middle of all the anti-police and racism/bigotry crap going on right now, to give some credit for good work where it’s due and recognize real cases of desperation that lead people to make bad decisions. So here it goes.

My nomination of good guy of the week is Officer William Stacy of Tarrant, Alabama. I’ve spent enough time in Alabama to be uncomfortable just visiting the state. The Texas legislature was smart enough to put up a big sign warning folks not to leave Texas. It tells you that your at the Sabine River. Turnaround! Let’s put it this way, A great many folks would have expected Stacy to cuff and stuff Helen Johnson and some who will read this will suggest she rot in jail as a thief. But, Stacy truly went above and beyond. Some may call him soft or say he used judgement befitting a rookie but, I say he’s being the kind of cop we should all want on our streets.

“You can’t let kids go hungry. I ran inside, bought the eggs for her and walked out and handed her the eggs,” Stacy said.

“She tried to give me all the money she had on her, which was $1.25. I told her to keep it. I don’t want it. The way she can repay me is to never do this [shoplift] again.”

Stacy didn’t have to do what he did for Helen Johnson. But it’s great to see his chief and the community standing behind him. One can only hope that should Stacy have the misfortune of being in a use of force incident later in his career that people will remember this moment and give him the benefit of the doubt rather than instantly vilifying him as a “jackbooted thug.” Good show Officer Stacy! Keep it up!

Democratic legislator from PA displays bizarre behavior, draws own gun in robbery attempt

After a day of votes and then an event for a fellow House member, two freshman representatives, Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, and Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, were a few blocks from the Capitol on their walk home a little before 11 p.m. Tuesday when a man pointed a gun and demanded a wallet, Mr. Flynn said. When the man trained his gun on Mr. Bizzarro, Mr. Flynn drew his own weapon, a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 pistol, he told reporters.

via Street crimes hit home for Pa. legislators – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Can’t make it up. Democrats do carry guns. Some of them are even legal. And it seems that Pennsylvania Representative, Marty Flynn, a Democrat from Lackawanna, PA, found it necessary to shoot at one of his own fellow Democrats. Zha-quan McGhee, age 15, was identified as the gunman who attempted to rob and then shoot at Flynn and fellow congressman Ryan Bizzarro.

McGhee; along with three accomplices, Jamani Ellison, 17; Derek Anderson, 17; and Jyair Leonard, 15, will all be charged with robbery, conspiracy and violating curfew according to local police. They are apparently the same guys who committed a robbery earlier in the week in front of the PA Capitol. The previous victims were Republicans so it appears McGhee and company don’t discriminate.
