Vintage Looney Tunes Cartoon gets it partly right…
These days, Warner Brothers considers clips like these to be “adult content” when you try to buy them online from WB. That’s why you don’t see them on regular TV any more. The fact is, some of them did get into material that today would be considered offensive to many. Still, as adults, we can recognize those flaws and still see the underlying story for what it is. And in this case, a clip about Speedy Gonzales’ old buddy “Slow Poke” Rodriguez offers a lesson in the benefit of being armed.

HPD’s Mr. Thomas passes away at age 95…
The Houston Police Department is sad to announce the passing of retired Senior Police Officer Edward A. Thomas. Mr. Thomas, as he was affectionately known throughout the department, passed away this morning (August 10) of natural causes.
On July 27, HPD Headquarters was renamed the Houston Police Department Edward A. Thomas Building in a short ceremony that celebrated Officer Thomas’ dedication and 63 years of service. In 1948 Officer Thomas graduated from Cadet Class #1 and received numerous awards, commendations and letters of appreciation during his HPD career.
Officer Thomas was also one of the first African American police officers to join HPD and served during a time of systemic discrimination throughout the department. However, Mr. Thomas persevered and served with dedication and hard work. At the time of his retirement, he was the most revered and respected officer within the Houston Police Department.
“I am saddened to hear of Mr. Thomas’ passing,” said HPD Chief Charles A. McClelland, Jr. “He was a man who I respected immensely and was honored to know and call my friend. The Houston Police Department and the City of Houston was a better place of having had him as an officer.”
Officer Thomas was 95. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time.
May he rest in peace.

Use of force is a hot topic again with the media salivating over every arrest and every officer involved shooting. George Takei decides to open a can
The man is welcome to his opinion. I however, find it interesting that a man who knows what it is like for his own government to imprison him and his family without due process would advocate giving that same government an absolute monopoly on force. At the end of the day, to suggest that only the government should have guns is to suggest he’s ok with the way his family was treated during World War II.
I just find it odd that he would honestly suggest that no one should have the right to fight such an egregious violation of one’s basic civil rights and just go along with the program for “the greater good.” Personally, George, I want you and your husband to be able to defend yourselves and your weed stash. Not just from some Confederate Flag waving moron but, from the same Democrats and Republicans who thought it was OK to round you and your family up for no reason other than you had the wrong color skin and the wrong lastname.
