The Land of Fruits, Nuts, and Flakes Says Hunting Rifles Are ‘Assault Weapons’

According to an article posted on Reason.com by Jacolb Sullum, California Governor Jerry Brown is currently deciding whether or not to sign a new ban covering ANY centerfire rifle with a detacheable magazine. Needless to say, it’s a broad and loosely defined category that would include the Remington Woodsmaster and Browning BAR, rifles most would consider classic hunting rifles.

We’ve long said the 2nd Amendment wasn’t about hunting, collecting, or sports. It has and always will be about defending the rights of the individual from the state. Ensuring that the state does not possess a monopoly with regard to armed force. Today’s M4 is indeed a modern musket. And yet, gun control advocates always try to placate those willing to listen, by telling them that they are only trying to keep “weapons of war” off the street.

Remington Woodsmasters have never been “weapons of war” but, it is clear these guns will be banned as a result of this legislation.  While a few, smart liberals (stop laughing, they do exist) are starting to open their eyes, the vast majority of their ilk are raging a culture war against the 2nd Amendment.  They will continue to do everything they can to elminate/undermine/destroy the right to keep an bear arms and this is just the latest example of that fight. Californians, you need to start voting correctly or move to a free state!

Anthony Bourdain, “…I think I should have as many guns as I like.”

Admitted a “socialist sympathizer, leftie, liberal New Yorker,” Anthony Bourdain had a few things to say about guns on Tumblr today. Folks I don’t pretend to know this many from a hill of beans but, I recognize him as a prominent face in popular culture. A person of influence on the minds of many whose opinions are formed based on what their favorite celebrity of the week is thinking.  And while I usually don’t care what such people think, whenever the subject of guns comes up, I am keen to hear what they have to say because I cannot refute bullshit if I don’t know what’s been said. In this case, I was a little surprised. Somewhat pleasantly even.

Now, I’m not saying Bourdain is or will be a card carrying member of the NRA, GOA, or SOF anytime soon. I do not agree with his attempt to liken guns or the ability to own/operate them to the licensing or purchasing of a “sixteen wheeler.” (Figures a New Yorker wouldn’t know it’s 18-wheels but, that’s another story). But, I did find it refreshing to see that unlike so many lefties, he at least was not on the bandwagon of castigating all gun owners and claiming that the latest tragedy is the fault of gun owners and/or the NRA as so many lefties, especially in the news and entertainment industries, tend to do.

Listening to Bourdain, I am reminded of the kind of people who used to identify themselves a liberals and Democrats and yet are seldom seen anymore. Those aren’t hell bent on taking away other people’s rights. The man obviously still has some leftie ideas with respect to knowing more about me before “allowing” me to exercise my rights but, it seems he at least recognize the right exists and that’s more than I can say for our President or his lackeys.

Your recalled XD-S is going to be gone for a while longer than expected…

A few weeks back, Springfield Armory issued a safety recall of the 3.3 XD-S series of pistols. Not all of the pistols, just those within a specific range of serial numbers. Specifically, 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols – serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700 and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols – serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300.

As of Friday however, Springfield Armory issued a revisio/update in which they indicated the original 30-day turnaround time might not be sufficient to resolve the issues surrounding the fine Croatian craftsmanship of the XD-S line. According to the latest notice, they are currently testing upgrade solutions and will post an update no later than October 4th.

We originally estimated a 30-day turn-around time, but it has unfortunately taken longer to develop and identify an upgrade solution. Please know that we are continuing to test potential upgrade solutions at this time and we have been doing so since we became aware of this issue. This testing is nearing completion and we will post any new updates as soon as we have identified a final upgrade solution. We will post our next update no later than Friday, October 4, and we will communicate immediately if a final solution is identified prior to that date. We wish that we could provide you with a specific return date at this time, but we are unfortunately unable to do so. Upgrades will be completed on a “first come / first served” basis.

So what does this mean? Well, it means that if you’ve already sent your gun to Springfield Armory, it might be a while before you get it back and as of today. Springfield Armory can’t tell you when you’ll get your gun back. I’m not going to tell you that you should have purchased some other gun because this really could have happened with any manufacturer. However, if your XD-S was the only gun you owned, you’ve been left high and dry for the time being with no gun and no clue when you’ll get it back. That’s not cool.

Why it’s taking so long:

We pledge to you that we are working as fast as we can, and have greatly increased our staff and number of shifts to ensure that we are leveraging every hour in the day.

We understand that our decision to announce a voluntary safety recall without a final solution in place has caused confusion and frustration. We sincerely apologize for that inconvenience. However, your safety is, and always has been, our paramount concern. And that is why we decided to issue the voluntary safety recall before we had a guaranteed upgrade solution in place.

Our decision not to wait was based on putting you, our customer, first. Some companies build in several weeks of lead time before announcing their recalls. But, we didn’t feel that was the most responsible approach in this case since our priority is your safety.

Please know that we are committed to resolving this matter as quickly as possible and we are committed to ensuring that you will be very pleased with your upgraded 3.3 XD-S™. As a reminder, do not use your 3.3 XD-S™ until the upgrade has been performed.

To Springfield’s credit, they really have acted out of an abundance of caution. It’s a pain in the butt and I’m sure a source of consternation however, it would have been irresponsible for them to recognize a dangerous problem and not say anything. Imagine if you will, how we might have reacted had Springfield known about this and not said anything when news reports came in of guns going bang just because you racked the slide.

The United States Senate’s website can’t get the U.S. Constitution right.

It’s a damned shame that the United States Senate’s website can’t correctly summarize the US Constitution without a hint of political bias. Under the link for the US Constitution, the following quote appears next to the 2nd Amendment.

Whether this provision protects the individual’s right to own firearms or whether it deals only with the collective right of the people to arm and maintain a militia has long been debated.

Never mind the fact that the United States Supreme Court’s ruling settled this “debate” in 2008 and reaffirmed an individual right to keep and bear arms in 2010.
