If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a petition to eliminate the NFA tax stamp associated with short barreled rifles (SBR)

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Remove the need for citizens to register a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) with the ATF, paying a $200 tax stamp.

A rifle is a firearm with a barrel length greater than 16 inches. A Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) is a rifle with a barrel shorter than 16 inches. An SBR is less effective than a rifle but more effective than a handgun for self-defense. It is also more efficient for traversing close quarters to clear a threat from your place of residence such as a burglar, etc. As of right now, you can purchase a bull-pup rifle or rifle with a folding stock which is, in most cases, shorter in over all length than a SBR. The need to register an SBR (and Short Barreled Shotgun) is unjustified and the requirement should be removed.

They need 100,000 signatures by August 1. At present, the site indicates just 7,104 signatures so far. Please consider signing. It would be at least one step toward eliminating NFA registration all together. We may never see the entire NFA repealed but, it would be nice if we could at least eliminate NFA registration for rifles and shotguns.

I’m the father of a murdered child. I’ve done nothing but track violence in America since my son was murdered. We have a serious problem with guns in this country… and the NRA solution to arm every grammar-school 80-year-old teacher with a gun is absolutely ludicrous.

Garry McCarthy says all of this, is because of “straw-purchasing.” But nearly all of Chicago’s rampant violence happens in just a few areas of the city. Mostly poor. Mostly over run with gangs. And little in the way of police intervention. But when they do intervene…

“Five of the people were shot by police over 36 hours on Friday and Saturday, including two boys 14 and 16 who were killed when they allegedly refused to drop their guns…” via Two boys, 14 and 16, among five people shot by Chicago police.

Chicago has long been home to some of most stringent gun laws in the county. Garry McCarthy would have you believe that if we could just restrict guns laws a little more, things would get better. It’s Chicago; chief, you’ve already turned all the gun control knobs to 11…It’s not working!

Lost gun store fight costs Chicago taxpayers nearly $1 million | Early & Often

“…The first blow came on Jan. 6 when a federal judge ruled the city’s longtime ban on gun stores was unconstitutional.

On Thursday, the second blow landed when the judge approved $940,000 in legal fees that the city must pay to the attorneys who challenged the ban. Charles J. Cooper, one of those plaintiffs’ attorneys, charged $975 an hour for his work….”
