Bloomberg Plans a $50 Million Challenge to the N.R.A. – NYTimes.com

“Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence…”

Ugh.  What people need to understand first is that “gun violence” is a made up term. Violence is either lawful or unlawful, regardless of the tool used to commit said violence. Far more people are killed and injured annually as a result of what is actually criminal use of a motor vehicle through driving under the influence, speeding, and (increasingly) distracted driving.  And yet, no one calls it “vehicular violence” even when there are actual criminal charges such as “vehicular assault.” And we certainly aren’t in a rush to ban private ownership of vehicles. Again, this is a completely made up term to suit a political agenda.

Bloomberg and others of his ilk will say they respect the 2nd Amendment. They don’t. At least not as it’s written. They choose to interpret it as a collective right for the rest of us while reserving it as an individual right to themselves by way of a phalanx of armed security personnel. And yet if you point out this hypocrisy, the answer is usually one of two things. They are considered “high profile” or “high risk,” neither of which would apply if they’d just shut up and stopped sticking their noses into other people’s lives.

New movie will make NRA ‘wish they weren’t alive,’ says Obama backer Weinstein | Yahoo

Famed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is no stranger to controversy. But Weinstein says he’s turned his sights on his biggest target yet: the National Rifle Association.

“I shouldn’t say this. I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this issue head on and they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein said during an interview with radio host Howard Stern Wednesday.

“I think the NRA is a disaster area,” Weinstein added, saying, “I don’t think we need guns in this country.”

Bring it! Understand this, portraying gun owners and the NRA as the enemy or criminals will not save our children from evil people. People intent on doing evil will ALWAYS find a way to do it. And it is intellectually dishonest to stand there and claim we don’t “need guns in this country” because you are first in line to ask the government to use its guns against people you consider a political enemy. How hypocritical from a Jewish man who, had another proponent of gun control had his way and his “Blitzkrieg” succeeded, likely wouldn’t be alive today.

Black Folk Don’t: Join the NRA (YouTube)

Hat tip to Mr. Colion Nior for this one. He made a cameo appearance in this video that he didn’t know about until he saw the video. Not all of our followers will relate but, that;s OK…I’m going to step up and say it’s relevant to our “Brotherhood of the Spiral Tube” because if there’s one thing we can’t afford to do, it’s alienating a group of people who might otherwise be our allies for reasons that have nothing to do with guns. We as a community need to know/understand how we are perceived by others and what they are being told by our adversaries. There are some things in the video that people get right, some things people get wrong, some downright lies, and some clearly jacked up understanding of history.

Media salivate over the fact Police Found An NRA Certificate In Sandy Hook Shooter’s Home…Seize opportunity to blame the NRA, again.

It’s been over a year and the left leaning, mainstream media continue to grab at any straw that could shift the blame for Sandy Hook and every other tragedy involving guns, knives, sticks, stones, or even pressure cookers to the NRA.

Authorities in Connecticut on Friday released a final report on the December 2012 elementary-school massacre in Newtown, Conn., which revealed the shooter’s mother had ties to the National Rifle Assocation (NRA).

Police in Connecticut released the bulk of their report on the events of last year’s tragedy. Predictably, the media has seized on the opportunity to discuss something other than their favorite President’s dismal failures and a Congress run a muck. The report, they say, shows that the Sandy Hook shooter’s mother had “ties to the National Rifle Association.” And what constitutes “ties to the National Rifle Association?” The mere fact she attended an NRA Basic Pistol Course and kept the certificate from said course. No NRA membership or NRA periodical publications that come to the home as a result of said membership. Nope, mere possession of a certificate from an NRA Basic Pistol class.

Point of fact, NRA’s “Basic” courses for pistol, rifle, shotgun, as well as personal defense inside or outside the home are open to ALL people of good moral standing (i.e. not a felon or legally prohibited from owning a firearm). You do not need to be an NRA member to attend an NRA course, even to become an NRA certified instructor. That said, NRA certified instructors are specifically trained to never turn someone away because of a perceived disability and to make every accommodation for anyone who wants to take the course. Unlike many liberal organizations, we don’t tell someone they can’t attend our courses because they are black, white, short, tall, fat, skinny, missing an arm, leg, or growing a finger out of their nose. We don’t judge people on their appearance or kick them to the curb because they “don’t seem quite right” as we are not mental health experts in the business of diagnosing mental illness.

Though it certainly can and should be argued that the shooter’s mother should have exercised better judgement in providing the shooter access to her guns, the fact is there was no legal reason to deny his mother her right to own a gun and the police have said as much. That said, the shooter’s mother knew he had significant behavioral issues that required treatment.  It seems that she failed to get him that treatment and by the time she got around to it, it was too late. She paid for her poor judgement with respect to securing her firearms with her life and her poor decisions enabled the shooter’s actions. How any of that is the NRA’s fault is beyond me.

Hickenlooper to Bloomberg: Shut up and stay out of Colorado…you’re not helping!

OK, that’s not exactly what was said. The except below is exactly what was said by Hickenlooper in a recent interview with USA Today.

“Colorado is a state that people like to be themselves and solve their own problems,” the Democratic governor said in an interview with Capital Download, USA TODAY’s weekly video newsmaker series. “They don’t really like outside organizations meddling in their affairs, and maybe the NRA gets a pass on that.

via Colo. governor suggests gun-control groups stay away.

Hickenlooper made the statements above in an interview about looming recall efforts against Evie Hudak. Hudak famously or infamously dismissed/contradicted rape survivor Amanda Collins during Collins’ testimony before Veteran and Military Affairs Committee meeting. Collins explained that had she been able to carry a gun, she might not have been raped but, Hudak insisted Collins was better off being unarmed saying, “…statistics are not on your side.” Hudak went on to say that had Collins had a gun the night she was raped, Collins’ attacker would have taken her gun from her and used it to kill Collins. Even if Hudak has statistics on her side, common sense says there is little to be gained from publicly rebuking a rape victim and basically telling her, “You would have been raped anyway…having a gun just would have meant, he’d kill you too.” For all the talk of a Republican “War on Women,” Hudak (a Democrat) doesn’t seem to be interested in helping women much at all and is as sexist as it gets. There just might be enough steam left in the recall engine to burn her to the ground.
