Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is now officially a gun-free zone!

In years past, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been a largely peaceful, fun, annual event in Texas. And every year, the question of whether or not it was legal to carry on the grounds has come up. There was a time when the HLSR didn’t seem to have an official policy on the issue. The law however, was generally clear.

If one were to enter, for example, the bull or bronco riding events, you are obviously at a “professional sporting event” and it would be illegal to carry on the premises of the event in which that was occurring. But if you’re just attending the carnival outside that event, concealed carry technically isn’t an issue. But in 2011, there was a shooting between “teens” on the carnival grounds. and a movement to ban guns entirely from the event gained steam. Fast forward to 2015 and there are now metal detectors at all HLSR entrances.

Unfortunately, the event is still far from secure. What takes place cannot even remotely be called a “search” or even light screening. Anyone so inclined, could still walk-in with a blade or even a gun. Anyone who intends to do others harm, will still do so. And a sure sign that the HLSR isn’t what it used to be is the latest kerfuffle…A student’s artwork has been rejected because it merely contained the image of a gun. This, from an organization that allegedly prides itself on celebrating cowboys and Texas culture…You’d think it was the Austin Livestock Show and Rodeo or something!

Muriel Bowser: ‘You have a mayor who hates guns’ – The Washington Post

“You have a mayor who hates guns…If it was up to me, we wouldn’t have any handguns in the District of Columbia. I swear to protect the Constitution and what the courts say, but I will do it in the most restrictive way as possible.” – Muriel Bowser, Mayor, Washington, D.C.

Well, I’ll give her this much…At least Muriel Bowser is honest and upfront about it. She would ban all guns, given the chance. To hell with the People (all of them as opposed to just those who voted for her), the Constitution (you know, the law!) or the rulings of the United States Supreme Court, she’s just going to do it her way! That the seat of government in the “Free World” is a place that seeks to restrict freedom every chance it gets boggles the mind.

Anti-gun writer/director posts PSA that recommends theft of firearms by children to thwart gun violence

So here’s the story, a would be writter/director from San Francisco, California named Rejina Sincic has posted a video on YouTube that she calls a public service announcement against “gun violence.” Quite honestly, I’m not sure it makes a case against violence of any kind so much as it advocate dangerous and criminal behavior by children. Specifically, it suggests that to stop “gun violence,” children should steal their parents’ guns and take them to their teachers at school.

In the video, as a most melancholy piano solo plays in the background, we see a boy sneak into what is presumably his parents’ bedroom to steal a handgun. Of course, the gun is just sitting in a chest-of-drawers. He then hides the gun in his backpack before taking it to school. For those paying attention, we’re already at a felony here folks. But, then we see the camera panning through the classroom and the boy stays behind after the class bell rings. The boy walks up to the teacher’s desk and proceeds to plop the handgun down on the desk before saying, “Can you take this away? I don’t feel safe with a gun in my house.” You can see the video here here. or watch it below.

There’s so much wrong here it’s not even funny. As I said before, the woman is advocating a felony. Multiple felonies in fact. At let’s not forget, we all recognize the hazards of an untrained/unauthorized person handling a firearm. My guess is that if a child watches this and shoots himself, Ms. Sincic won’t feel she shares any responsibility for that. Nor is she likely to feel guilty about a kid getting caught with the gun at school and in today’s “zero tolerance” environment, being permanently labelled a felon for stealing and then bringing the gun to school. And heaven forbid, that the unsecured gun is negligently discharged in the process of the untrained kid reaching into his backpack or handing it to the teacher resulting in the teacher or another student being shot. Nope, all of that, in Sincic’s eyes is surely the fault of the evil parent who owned the gun or the manufacturer who built it. This folks, is the other side of the argument. There is no reasonable discussion to be had with people like this.

Update….I knew it wouldn’t be long before this video was taken down. But it needs to be seen. Why? Because people like Ms. Sincic need to be exposed for the way they think, or their failure to think past their own childish fears. Her arguments are completely emotional in nature and thus the video itself, devoid of logic as a result. So here’s the video in its entirety.

Chrissy Teigen thought all of Twitter was anti-gun…Wrong!

So Chrissy Teigen opens takes to Twitter to express an opinion about a tragedy in Canada and throws in a dig against the United States in the process. Hey, that’s her right. And I don’t think any of us likes it when these things happen.  But, did she really think there wouldn’t be at least one person who might not take it well?

Yup. Sucks to find out not everyone agrees with you.

I will submit that some folks really reacted poorly. Of this, I am anything but proud. But there are vile people in the world and surely by now, you’ve seen others get treated similarly for what they’ve done or said.

Not sure why you should feel sick but, talents? What talents? Please don’t fool yourself into thinking anyone appreciates you because of your “talents.” Your career and your sole contribution to the world thus far is defined by nothing more than being pretty. Don’t get me wrong, there are many women in the world who have accomplished a great deal and improved the world through very real talents, knowledge, and skill. You are not among them. That said, I’m sure plenty of folks will enjoy seeing your “talents” on Instagram.

Bloomberg Plans a $50 Million Challenge to the N.R.A. – NYTimes.com

“Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence…”

Ugh.  What people need to understand first is that “gun violence” is a made up term. Violence is either lawful or unlawful, regardless of the tool used to commit said violence. Far more people are killed and injured annually as a result of what is actually criminal use of a motor vehicle through driving under the influence, speeding, and (increasingly) distracted driving.  And yet, no one calls it “vehicular violence” even when there are actual criminal charges such as “vehicular assault.” And we certainly aren’t in a rush to ban private ownership of vehicles. Again, this is a completely made up term to suit a political agenda.

Bloomberg and others of his ilk will say they respect the 2nd Amendment. They don’t. At least not as it’s written. They choose to interpret it as a collective right for the rest of us while reserving it as an individual right to themselves by way of a phalanx of armed security personnel. And yet if you point out this hypocrisy, the answer is usually one of two things. They are considered “high profile” or “high risk,” neither of which would apply if they’d just shut up and stopped sticking their noses into other people’s lives.
