New movie will make NRA ‘wish they weren’t alive,’ says Obama backer Weinstein | Yahoo

Famed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is no stranger to controversy. But Weinstein says he’s turned his sights on his biggest target yet: the National Rifle Association.

“I shouldn’t say this. I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this issue head on and they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein said during an interview with radio host Howard Stern Wednesday.

“I think the NRA is a disaster area,” Weinstein added, saying, “I don’t think we need guns in this country.”

Bring it! Understand this, portraying gun owners and the NRA as the enemy or criminals will not save our children from evil people. People intent on doing evil will ALWAYS find a way to do it. And it is intellectually dishonest to stand there and claim we don’t “need guns in this country” because you are first in line to ask the government to use its guns against people you consider a political enemy. How hypocritical from a Jewish man who, had another proponent of gun control had his way and his “Blitzkrieg” succeeded, likely wouldn’t be alive today.

Female store clerk shoots and kills would-be robber : News : NorthwestOhio.com

“Just think if she didn’t have that weapon, what could have happened to her. This could be another innocent person dead for no reason,” say local resident via Female store clerk shoots and kills would-be robber : News : NorthwestOhio.com.

Incidents in which law abiding citizens successfully defend themselves against violent criminal action occur far more often than the media and many who oppose to the right to bear arms would have you believe. It looks like December Long, 29, of Toledo, Ohio either knew this or learned very quickly on November 2. According to WNWO, an NBC News Affiliate.

Long was working as a clerk at a Toledo Stop & Ro…err…Stop & Go when Christopher Shockley, 28, a local half-way house resident, entered the story at approximately 9pm and attempted to rob the Stop & Ro…err…Go at gunpoint. Details are a little sketchy but according police, Shockley shot Long in the abdomen. Long produced her own gun and returned fire. Long’s bullet was placed more effectively and Shockley was found DRT (dead right there).

Offering commentary that is somewhat unusual for police departments, rather than admonishing Long and telling civilians they should simply be good victims, Toledo Police Public Information Officer Joe Hellerman said, “He came in to do the armed robbery. It turned into a gun fight…” and warned others to think twice before committing an offense because, “You never know if that clerk behind the counter has a gun.”

One local resident, cited only as Jose, went so far as to praise Ms. Long saying, “Well I would thank her honestly. That could have happened to someone else, and what if they didn’t have a gun.”

Some liberals really do think cars cause car-violence…

“The truth is known, obvious and inarguable. It cannot be said too clearly, and it cannot be said too often: guns make gun violence happen, gun-control laws make it stop.” – Adam Gopnik via After the Navy Yard Shooting: Why This No Time to Despair About Gun Control : The New Yorker.

That the above quote appears in “The New Yorker” is no surprise. Still, the thought that someone who considers himself to be of at least average intelligence would write it, let alone say it with a straight face, is hard to believe. The usual sarcastic retort would be to suggest that cars cause car-violence. But, the unfortunate reality is that people like Gopnik would say, “Yes! The truth is known, obvious, and inarguable…”

We’ve said before that violence is violence. That violence is either lawful, or unlawful. Guns are merely a tool through which that violence is committed. Violence can be committed through the use of many tools. The concept of “gun violence” is made up to justify the vilification of the tool, rather than the actor.  But curiously, the logic is not applied with regard to violence committed with other tools. We don’t talk about “bomb violence” even though the Boston Marathon Bombing earlier this year was clearly an act of unlawful violence.

Like wise, when Nathan Campbell decided to drive his car down a crowded sidewalk in Venice Beach in August, no one railed against “car-violence” even though that wasn’t the first or the last time such a crime has occurred. The fact is, he committed violence, and it was unlawful, period.  He willfully, knowingly, aimed to injure and kill as many people as he could for no reason other than he felt like it. His tool of choice happened to be a car.  Miriam Carey, committed unlawful violence when she ran over at least one police officer during her vehicular rampage through DC last week. Or what about Alexian Lien who clearly, knowingly and willfully plowed through a group of bikers to get away from an impending attack…The Range Rover was decidedly used to commit violence but, it may in fact be lawful violence.

Obviously, these cases are just random oddities among the 30,000 or more cases of drunk, reckless, distracted driving incidents in which people are killed every year. And of course, the total number of such fatalities is small in comparison to the literally, millions, injured annually.  The almost routine drive by shootings that occur in places like Los Angeles, California don’t count toward these totals but, it is hard to deny that a car is a tool used to commit violence in such cases.  Yet we do not see calls to ban cars or campaigns against car-violence.

The reason we don’t see such campaigns is because we recognize that cars nearly all of us own do not (yet) drive themselves and they do not operate with free will. So it is the people operating those cars who are at fault. As such, we do not seek to punish other drivers for the actions of the Nathan Campbells, Miriam Careys, or Alexian Liens of the world by arguing that one should not be allowed to buy Dodge Avengers, Infinity G37s, or Land Rover Range Rovers because they were used to run over people. We do not demand background checks of anyone buying a car. Instead, we clearly recognize that it is not the cars themselves that are at fault. The truth is known, obvious, and inarguable…The problem clearly lies with those operating said cars. But, then again, people like Adam Gopnik might just believe a guy like me shouldn’t be able to buy a pickup without submitting fingerprints, a blood test, and proving that I need it.

Citing shootings, Obama says must ‘go back at’ gun-control push – Yahoo News

Same $#it, different day…Pardon my French. The President has announced his intention to redouble his gun-control efforts. Never mind that most of this country’s most tragic multiple shootings have a disturbing tendency to happen, more often than not, in jurisdictions with all the restrictions and bans the President, the Brady Campaign, and others demand while simultaneously claiming to respect the 2nd Amendment. The fact is, they’ll never be “happy” until all guns are banned so they can turn their attention to your thoughts, Oh wait, they are already trying to control your thoughts and redefine the First Amendment as a privilege only for those they believe worthy..

Ex British PM Tony Blair’s daughter held at gunpoint – CNN.com

Ex British PM Tony Blair’s daughter held at gunpoint – CNN.com.

Depending on your perspective, the fact Tony Blair’s daughter was held at gunpoint demonstrates several things. First; it demonstrates that crime and violence know no race, creed, religion, or economic status. Two; given the first, they can occur anywhere, anytime, to anyone. And third; that gun control, even in the United Kingdom represents is an abject failure of public policy.

I meet people from the UK on a fairly regular basis in the US as they often go to gun ranges as a sort of tourist attraction. There aren’t many gun ranges in the UK and the few that exist, are generally only for the rich and well connected. Even then, it’s almost exclusively rifles and shotguns that must be used, maintained, and stored securely AT THE CLUB. Legal possession of firearms in the home in the UK is EXTREMELY rare. The police don’t even carry guns except for specialized units who are only authorized to access or use those guns under very specific conditions. Even then, those units do not regularly carry said guns.  Given all of this, one would think there is zero gun crime in the UK. And yet, we have the headline above…Tony Blair’s daughter, held at gunpoint.

Rewind to yesterday, I watched a recording of CNN’s new iteration of “Crossfire” in which they had yet another debate about gun control. This one sparked by the traged at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday. The talking points were predictable, especially the lies/delusional musings of the anti-gunners.  But notably, they had Colin Goddard, Virginia Tech survivor and advocate for the Brady Campaign as well as Mayors Against Illegal Guns facing off against Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America

Newt Gingrich led off the discussion by asking Goddard what law would have prevented the Navy Yard shooting. Goddard immediately deflected and failed to answer the question saying we shouldn’t base our policies on the last mass shooting because, “…those people are already dead.” “We have to do things to prevent the next group of people from getting shot and killed.” What’s important is, “…what measures will stop the most number of dangerous people from easily obtaining firearms in the first place,” he said.

In other words, he didn’t have an answer because the reality is, as even LZ Granderson of CNN pointed out, gun control is not the answer. When Chicago was brought up as an example of a city that until very recently, had a near total ban on all modern long arms and handguns and in which nearly all such guns are illegally purchased, Goddard laid his cards on the table saying, “…all illegal guns began their life as a legal gun…”  He contends that requiring background checks for all sales would cut off the flow of illegal guns.  And that brings us back to the UK.  Surely, an outright ban has cut off the flow of illegal guns…right?

Nope, If Chicago and Washington DC weren’t good enough examples, then few things demonstrate the failures of gun control better than the rise of violent crimes in general, especially those involving firearms, in Great Britain.  Civilian gun ownership, especially in the home, has been all but completely outlawed. As mentioned before, with limited exception, not even the police have or carry guns.  And yet even Tony Blair’s progeny cannot escape the fact that if you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.
