City of Houston is trying to shutdown Top Gun Range

“Top Gun installed a state of the art ‘bullet trap’ at its range in 2009, after a fire the range led to upgrades of the facility. This bullet trap was installed as part of overall range construction. The new range was designed by ‘Action Target,’ a company that does business from its home office in Provo, Utah,” according to the complaint.

Since installing the rubber bullet trap, Top Gun says, Houston police have inspected its range every year and approved its application for a “Special Shooting Gallery Permit.”

“As is its custom, Top Gun, on October 31, 2013, once again submitted its application for approval of its Special Shooting Gallery Permit with the Houston Police Department,” the complaint states.

Top Gun claims that two weeks later the city’s human resources department said the application had been routed to it by mistake, and it would send it to the police department.

Officer Jeff Roeder inspected Top Gun’s range on Dec. 26, then followed up with an email on New Year’s Eve, stating he would not issue Top Gun a permit because the range was out of compliance with city law, Top Gun says in the complaint.

That the city government is anti-gun and has zero respect for the 2nd Amendment should be news to no one. It is, after all, awash in liberal Democrats who have never met an anti-gun policy or law they didn’t like. It seems that fact now means a family owned business is fighting for its life. Top Gun is a range familiar to almost anyone who has spent much time looking for an indoor range in Houston. Back in the 1990s when Top Gun first opened, its original owner applied for and was granted a variance from the city’s “shooting gallery” ordinance because even then, the ordinance requirements were out of date and anything but safe. Unfortunately, neither the city, nor city council has ever had any interest in updating the ordinance because, at the end of the day, they don’t want gun ranges in the city.

In spite of all this, Top Gun ownership changed hands between 2005 and 2006 to its current ownership. Owner Maro Johnson was realizing a life-long dream of owning a gun shop and range. Top Gun’s management has dutifully applied for their “shooting gallery permit” each year without incident. But I guess now, with the mayor in her final term, her administration feels they can enact any policy they please because there’s no political penalty to be paid. Those policies range from ignoring state law to grant benefits to same-sex couples to shutting down a business involved in otherwise lawful activities that they don’t like.

This has far reaching implications as there is another range in the works not far from Top Gun. It could be that the other range’s application for a permit lead to Top Gun’s application being denied. I’d be curious to know if that other range’s permit was denied or not. If it was approved and the range is designed in accordance to city demands, it will be in direct violation of OSHA and EPA regulations. This could get interesting folks!

A man was recovering from a robbery and beating after four suspects barged into his Katy home with weapons early Thursday.

Brian Washington said he was pistol-whipped and beaten with a chair after being ambushed by the four bandits who followed his girlfriend home around 3 a.m.

The robbers busted down doors and ransacked rooms, taking $8,000 Washington had stored in a shoebox. They also put a gun to his girlfriend’s head.

Close to home…Very close to home. But, this doesn’t look to be random. In fact, the victim thinks it was likely someone he knew who set him up.

Famed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is no stranger to controversy. But Weinstein says he’s turned his sights on his biggest target yet: the National Rifle Association.

“I shouldn’t say this. I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this issue head on and they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein said during an interview with radio host Howard Stern Wednesday.

“I think the NRA is a disaster area,” Weinstein added, saying, “I don’t think we need guns in this country.”

Bring it! Understand this, portraying gun owners and the NRA as the enemy or criminals will not save our children from evil people. People intent on doing evil will ALWAYS find a way to do it. And it is intellectually dishonest to stand there and claim we don’t “need guns in this country” because you are first in line to ask the government to use its guns against people you consider a political enemy. How hypocritical from a Jewish man who, had another proponent of gun control had his way and his “Blitzkrieg” succeeded, likely wouldn’t be alive today.

Sheriff’s Detective Allen Proctor wrote that Reeves spoke to Oulson during the movie previews, then got up and informed management.

When Reeves returned to his seat “additional words were exchanged” and Oulson threw a bag of popcorn at Reeves, the report said.

After officers read him his rights, Reeves told the detective that Oulson struck him in the face with an unknown object, and that’s when he removed a .380 caliber gun from his pants pocket. The report said Reeves fired the gun and struck Oulson once in the chest and that he “was in fear of being attacked.”

Judge Lynn Tepper said she found the evidence significant enough to warrant the no bond order.

Our man on the beat, Jason, says he’s hearing from a reliable source that “the old man went and got the manager of the theater after the initial confrontation. Manager and old man confront texter, texter throws popcorn bucket in old mans face and becomes aggressive. Old man draws, and the gun is grabbed, possibly by the wife, possibly by the victim. Struggle over gun and gun goes bang…”

I agree with Jason’s assessment on Facebook that it seems odd that a 20+ year police veteran would shoot someone for simply throwing popcorn or “an unknown object” at him. It would seem there has to be more to the story. If there really was a struggle over the gun, that’s would go a long way toward filling in some holes. However, there’s a whole question of whether or not a gun should have been introduced into this discussion in the first place. That’s not an argument against carrying a gun. However, it is a question of whether or not producing said gun as a threat was justified.

Older retiree facing a younger, stronger, man is an argument that there is a disparity of force but, that isn’t necessarily justification for producing a firearm. Verbal threats alone are not justification for the threat of deadly force (i.e. drawing a firearm).  If you escalated things without justification and that turned into a fight over the gun, it may foul any claim of self-defense. This is a case to watch as their are obvious implications for all of us who choose to go armed.

Missouri Senate To Consider Bill That Requires Parents To Report Gun Ownership To School

This act requires a parent or guardian to notify a school district, or the governing body of a private or charter school, that he or she owns a weapon within 30 days of enrolling the child in school or becoming the owner of a weapon. The written notification only needs to include the names of the parent and any child attending the school and the fact that the parent owns a weapon.

These people are nucking futs! Seriously? It’s oppression to require an ID to vote but, if I own a gun or consider owning a gun, I have to notify the school under threat of a fine? Whose being oppressed again? Don’t think this sort of thing won’t come to Texas if the likes of Wendy Davis gets elected governor.
