WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) today introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014, which would allow individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that also has concealed carry laws. The legislation is cosponsored by U.S. Sens. Thune (R-SD), Vitter (R-LA), Graham (R-SC), Boozman (R-AR), Inhofe (R-OK), Crapo (R-ID), Burr (R-NC), Cochran (R-MS), Johanns (R-NE), Enzi (R-WY), Moran (R-KS), Roberts (R-KS), and Portman (R-OH).
“This bill strengthens two of our nation’s most fundamental rights, ensuring law-abiding gun owners can lawfully carry their weapons into like-minded states, while respecting the rights of states to adopt laws that are best-suited for the people of that state. This is an important affirmation of the Second Amendment and one that has been a top priority of law-abiding gun owners in Texas for some time. It is time to get this done.
The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014 would treat state-issued concealed-carry permits like drivers’ licenses, allowing law-abiding citizens with concealed carry privileges to concealed-carry in any other states that also permit it by law.

Last night, Governor Brewer signed into law House Bill 2535. This NRA-supported legislation improves the process for obtaining a chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) certification when a signoff is required for the transfer of a firearm or other item regulated by the National Firearms Act (NFA).

We need this legislation in Texas. With the pending NFA rules changes from the BATFE, this would go a long way toward preventing 2nd Amendment hostile chief law enforcement officers (CLEOs) from arbitrarily denying signatures to citizens.
A CLEO signature does three things. It certifies that the applicant lives in the CLEOs jurisdiction; the CLEO has no knowledge the applicant will use the firearm unlawfully; and the CLEO has no knowledge the applicant is prohibited from owning the weapon. There’s no inherent liability to the CLEO himself or the local government but, that is often the “reason” given for refusing the signature.
While Texas is generally a gun friendly state, the larger municipalities and some counties aren’t always so friendly. As an example, the current Harris County Sheriff and Houston Police Chief will generally refuse to provide CLEO signatures. That’s not saying CLEO signatures can’t be had in Harris County but, it’s not often through those “obvious” channels. It would be nice if it were a violation of state law for these men to refuse signatures to non-prohibited persons. Heck, make it a felony. Wouldn’t that be something, a police chief in general population all because of his political bias.
This act requires a parent or guardian to notify a school district, or the governing body of a private or charter school, that he or she owns a weapon within 30 days of enrolling the child in school or becoming the owner of a weapon. The written notification only needs to include the names of the parent and any child attending the school and the fact that the parent owns a weapon.

These people are nucking futs! Seriously? It’s oppression to require an ID to vote but, if I own a gun or consider owning a gun, I have to notify the school under threat of a fine? Whose being oppressed again? Don’t think this sort of thing won’t come to Texas if the likes of Wendy Davis gets elected governor.
Same $#it, different day…Pardon my French. The President has announced his intention to redouble his gun-control efforts. Never mind that most of this country’s most tragic multiple shootings have a disturbing tendency to happen, more often than not, in jurisdictions with all the restrictions and bans the President, the Brady Campaign, and others demand while simultaneously claiming to respect the 2nd Amendment. The fact is, they’ll never be “happy” until all guns are banned so they can turn their attention to your thoughts, Oh wait, they are already trying to control your thoughts and redefine the First Amendment as a privilege only for those they believe worthy..
Citing shootings, Obama says must ‘go back at’ gun-control push – Yahoo News
Read that headline again…Chicago just abolished their gun registry. Seriously, that really just happened. In Obama’s “hometown”…Rahm Emanuel and all. Now the reality is, they really had no choice. This was not an act done because they suddenly felt like doing the right thing. There was no sudden revelation in which they recognized the 2nd Amendment as an individual right of the people. In fact, their hands were forced by successive court rulings and legislative changes over the past five years.
For Chicago, the cookie really began to crumble with the 2008 Heller V DC decision in which the Supreme Court of the United States finally ruled definitively that the 2nd Amendment guaranteed (not granted) an individual right to keep and bear arms. With that, Chicago’s long standing ban on handguns was an obvious target. Fast forward to 2010 and SCOTUS made it clear that every city and state must recognize the 2nd Amendment. And the hits just kept on rolling in from there as Illinois’ ban on concealed carry was ruled unconstitutional in 2012. Today’s vote in Chicago is merely the final nail in the coffin.
As a result, Democrats and liberals are stinging from this latest defeat after last night’s unexpected recall victory against Democratic legislators in Colorado who’d supported the state’s latest gun “reforms.” Interestingly enough, before being defeated last night, Angela Giron herself was quote saying, “For Mayors Against Illegal Guns, if they lose even one of these seats, they might as well fold it up. And they understand that…” Well, it seems they are batting .000 in last night’s recall vote. May the ball keep rolling to the right.
