So by now, it should be well known that the two newest Glock models were in fact known as the Glock 41 and 42. The 41 was the .45 caliber pistol we all expected and Jeff has had a chance to shoot it and the .380ACP Glock 42 just this past week. Being a .380, the 42 turns out to be a bit of a let down for most of us. It’s the gun almost no one asked for and Glock has taken quite a bit of ribbing for it. Time will tell though. We’d heard from someone with earlier production models in hand that the .380 was the “mythical” Glock 40 but, it could be that Glock is going to skip that number altogether.

Rumors have been swirling for months. There are even alleged pictures floating around on the Internet. It has long been said that new Glock pistols are coming. Well, this week, we’ve seen multiple industry sources indicating that Glock will announce at least two, possibly three new pistols around the time of the upcoming SHOT Show in Vegas.
The first, expected to be the Glock 40, is supposed to be Glock’s answer to the Smith&Wesson M&P Shield. It’s a modified single-column, sub-compact pistol. Word is it’s chambered in .380ACP. That’s a bit of a disappointment to some of us and comes up a little short as an answer to the Shield which can be had in 9x19mm or .40S&W. Previous Glock .380ACP pistols have been LE only in the United States due to import restrictions so it may be that the Glock 40 will be among the Glocks now being produced inside the US.
The second Glock, expected to be the Glock 41, is a stretched Glock 21SF designed to fit in the International Defensive Pistol Association’s “box.” In other words it is Glock’s new CDP (Custom Defensive Pistol) division gun, bringing to market a .45ACP equivalent to the Glock 34/35 that were introduced fifteen years ago. The longer sight radius would give this gun a slight edge over the 1911/2011 that has dominated in CDP for years.
No word yet on what, if anything will come of the Glock 42. It could be a direct competitor to the Shield in 9/40 where as the Glock 40 has already been confirmed for the most part to be a .380ACP pistol. Or it could be the mythical Glock Carbine rather than a pistol. Or it could just be vapor fueled by nothing more than rumor. We don’t know. Time will tell.

At 25, many women in this country are still struggling to shake off adolecence and are just a few months away from becoming the old chick in the club. Rachel Washburn, a former Philidelphia Eagles cheerleader, is not among them. She really was one of those women who was just paying for college as a cheerleader. And when she was done with college, she traded one green uniform for another…She joined the Army. She’s just back from her second tour of duty in Afghanistan as a US Army intelligence officer. It can be argued she’s not out on the front line but, even if she’s in the rear with the gear, she’s still doing more before 6AM than most men, let alone women, her age will do all day. That commands some respect no matter how you look at it.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and others of his ilk have had to publicly admit something freedom advocates have said all along…Gun control doesn’t work to prevent tragedies like the Arapahoe High School shooting. In fact, economists Steve Levitt (co-author of Freakonomics) and John Lott (author of More Guns, Less Crime), have both consistently noted none of the gun control measures pushed by the left will do anything to stop crime or prevent mass shootings. Even the President has had to admit this, albeit with his usual spin saying, “As a nation, we can’t stop every act of violence…” but, still decreeing, “…, we must make a change.” As it happens, changes have been made that actually do help and none of them have anything to do with gun control.
Though left-leaning outlets like CNN have consistently failed to report it, the official press releases from the school district and responding agencies all indicate that this tragedy ended abruptly when the bad guy was confronted by an armed resource officer assigned to the Arapahoe High School campus. When Wayne La Pierre and the NRA suggested this very thing following the Sandy Hook massacre, the left predictably went into overdrive saying it was absolutely crazy and spinning the suggestion into arming teachers which they said was even more insane.
Well, it would seem that neither idea, that of an armed-responder on campus nor the armed-teacher, is quite as crazy as the left would have you believe. Because there was an armed staff member on campus, the entire Arapahoe High School shooting was over in 80 seconds. When met with an armed response, the shooter turned the gun on himself. News reports all indicate the police responded “within minutes” but, the official word is “minutes” means 14 minutes to be exact. The shooting had been over for twelve minutes before the first officers arrived. As the old saying goes, “when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.” Still, Hickenlooper insists that even though the new gun control laws didn’t work this time, they’ll work eventually.

We’re sure you’ve noticed but, we’ve been a little behind on activity lately at GOTR. It’s not that we haven’t had plenty to say, we just haven’t had time to say it. As many of you know, all of us in studio have lives and full-time jobs outside the show. With the holidays upon us, some of us have a little more free time and can finally start to catch up. Still we’d like to apologize for not being quite as active as we could/should be.
